Worthy Virginia State President Don Jenkins

Don Jenkins is the Fraternal Order of Eagles Worthy State President for 2013-2014!

Don joined the FOE in 1988. From the start, Don has always been willing to lend a hand to his Eagle Brothers and Sisters where needed, and his commitment is best exemplified in the word “volunteerism”.

In his local Aerie (ALVA 871), Don has served in all offices except Secretary and Treasurer, and currently holds the Inside Guard Chair. Don has gone through all of the chairs of the Virginia State Conference. As two-year Regional Chairman of the Memorial Foundation, he chaired several successful fund raising events. He has also served on multiple committees at National Conventions held throughout the United States and Canada. As a local and state officer, Don endeavors to memorize his part in the rituals he participates in.

Nearly twenty years ago, ALVA Aerie lost a very young member to heart disease, and an annual charity walk to raise money for this worthy cause was started. After about ten years, it looked as if this annual event would fade away, so Don, along with his partner Jean, stepped in to keep the walk going. It continues to be one of ALVA’s most successful events.

Don has become known as “the Cookie Man” for his Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal cookies: many members look forward to him bringing them a bag of cookies at gatherings throughout the year!

Don was married for 28 years and is the proud patriarch of two daughters, four granddaughters, three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He retired from Giant Food after 31 years. While attending a Virginia State Bowling Tournament in Winchester, he met Jean Oliver. As the story goes, they have lived happily ever after and can always be seen traveling together throughout the state.
